For the first time since 2019, Victorian swimmers had the opportunity to be selected for a touring team – this year to New Zealand to compete in the NZ Tri-Meet. Eighteen athletes and four coaches were selected from across Victoria to compete against the best age group athletes New Zealand has to offer, as well as a team from Western Australia. MLC Aquatic was privileged to have five athletes and a coach selected – congratulations to Lily Koch, Toby McOmish, Charlie Millard, Isabella Osborn, Alannah Torrance, and Head Coach Jayden.
The tour was a lesson in adaptability, travelling and competing away as a team, and stepping far outside the comfort zone and performing in a high-pressure environment. Our athletes conducted themselves with a high level of professionalism and performance, making waves as some of the most impressive athletes both in and around the pool. A quick summary of their achievements in individual events can be found below.
Congratulations to Team Victoria for finishing on top of the point score, and congratulations to Alannah Torrance on being awarded the trophy for Highest Point Scoring Female on the team. Thank you to Swimming NZ for hosting and Swimming Victoria for supporting the meet. So many positive learnings came out of the tour, and we look forward to the next exciting opportunity!
