MLC Aquatic is a community based competitive swimming club that promotes the development of swimmers regardless of gender, at every stage.

We work in close partnership with Learn to Swim at MLC Swim School and as a club, support state, national and international level athletes as members of MLC Aquatic.

The MLC Aquatic squad structure is designed to give swimmers the ability move up, across and into a squad that will meet their swimming needs based on age, swimming ability, swimming goals and commitment level.

Squad allocation is at the discretion of our coaching team, with all of the above factors kept in mind.

2025 Squads

Development Squad

The Development Squad is designed as an introduction to squad swimming, to bridge the gap from Swim School. The focus of the squad is developing training and racing skills and experience, to prepare swimmers to successfully participate in competition. Attendance at competitions is required in this squad to build confidence and experience.

State Squad

The State Squad is designed to provide junior athletes with the training and skills required to compete at the Victorian Age Championships, as well as prepare for a successful future in swimming. Attendance at competitions is required in this squad to build confidence and experience.

National Development Squad

The National Development Squad is a selection-based squad which provides coaching and support for athletes identified as tracking towards national level qualification. Entry into this squad is by invitation from the Coaching Team, with up to 24 positions available in the squad.

Senior Competition Squad

The Senior Competition Squad aims to provide athletes with a flexible and nuturing training environment to successfully compete at State and National Championships, without the strict requirements of the Performance Squads.

Performance Squad

The Performance Squad is a selection-based squad which provides coaching and support for athletes performing highly at a national level. Entry into this squad is by invitation from the Coaching Team, with up to 16 positions available in the squad.

Equipment List for Squad Swimmers

Contact / Communication with Coaches

It is important for the coach, swimmers and parents to be in constant communication about the squad and swimmer’s goals and swimmer’s progress.  If there are any concerns in regards to training and competition please speak to your coach.

For swimmers who are under 18, MLC Aquatic supports the Child Safety Guidelines of individual communication streams such as chats, messages and emails that include a parent as well as the coach and swimmer.
